Day 6 · 9 Jun · Yamaguchi → Shūnan
I Could Buy Five Onigiri for That
Sore legs, a headache, and heavy rain all day meant I only managed 55 km. Even so, I stopped at Mangan-ji and Hōfu Tenmangū in Hōfu, and embarrassed myself with a slip of the tongue at a convenience store.
Today I went from Yamaguchi to Shūnan. I wrote a long piece, but I made a mistake copying it and deleted the whole thing. Damn.
The reasons today was pretty tough:
My legs hurt. I had a headache in the morning. It rained heavily all day.
That's roughly how it went. I'd also written about how I dealt with those problems. Looking back, it wasn't that interesting anyway. For those three reasons I only managed to ride 55 km. Even so, I saw some beautiful scenery and visited some interesting shrines.
The shrines I visited:
Mangan-ji (Temple No. 88 of the Hōfu Pilgrimage, Suō Province 33) I asked some people carrying out a survey at the shrine about the graveyard, and they told me the graves belong to the temple's parishioner families. Hōfu Tenmangū I learned about omikuji. There was one for the health of your legs and lower back. I thought it would come in handy in my current state, but it was 1,000 yen, so I didn't buy it. I figured I could buy five onigiri for that.
I had an embarrassing experience too. When the 7-Eleven cashier gave me a bag, I blurted out "ikutsu desu ka?" ("how old are you?"), and the cashier gave me a puzzled look. I quickly corrected myself: "ikura, how much? Is it free?"
